Accessibility

Guides are used on phones by people of every age, often in a hurry after a breach notice. They have to work for everyone.

Version 2026-10-20

Draft, pending review by counsel

This is a plain-language working draft. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer yet (decision Q19) and will change before ColdCredit launches. It is not legal advice.

Our goal

We aim for the guide pages, the console and this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. We have not yet had an independent audit, so we do not claim full conformance.

How we work toward it

  • Semantic HTML and accessible component primitives, so headings, landmarks, labels, focus and keyboard use work by default.
  • A skip link on every page, visible focus, and controls at least 44 pixels tall on guide pages.
  • Every color pair in our design system is tested for contrast, and the branding screen tells a business when its brand color would be too hard to read.
  • Motion is turned off for people who ask their device to reduce it.
  • Automated accessibility checks (axe, against WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 A and AA) run on every guide view and the main console pages in our test suite, on desktop Chrome, desktop Firefox and an iPhone-sized Safari, and a serious or critical finding fails the build.

Known limitations

  • The printable PDF of a guide's instructions is not a tagged PDF, so screen readers may read it poorly. The same instructions are on the guide page itself.
  • QR codes and posters need a camera or someone to read them; every guide is also a plain link a business can send.
  • The bureaus' own websites, Stripe's checkout page and the Cloudflare bot check are run by those companies, and their accessibility is outside our control.
  • Automated checks find many problems but not all of them. We have not yet run a full manual review with screen readers.
  • Guides are in English only for now.

Tell us about a problem

If something on ColdCredit is hard to use with your device, browser or assistive technology, email support@coldcredit.co with the page address and what happened. We aim to reply within 5 business days, and we will help you get the information another way while we fix it. If you were sent a guide, you can also freeze or unfreeze your credit by calling each bureau.
